Sunday not Sacred for 98’s Bomar

Critics have suggested that distractions have played a key part in Stirling Bomar’s Sunday collapses.

Wet Chicken’s Sunday Record Puzzling to Many

Peanut butter and jelly. Ham and burgers. These are two pairs of things that clearly go together. Less of a perfect match though is Stirling Bomar and Sunday at the Phi Alpha Cup. In his three Phi Alpha Cup appearances since 2005, Bomar has singlehandedly taken over the record books, posting the 3 worst defeats in Phi Alpha history — all Sunday Singles defeats.

A 10 and 9 loss in 2005 to Andy Sands, then consecutive browbeatings from Andrew Parker (a pro-rated 6 hole loss in 2006 and 7 and 6 defeat in 2007) have left pundits and teammates alike questioning Bomar’s psychological steadiness in the one-on-one match format.

One of Bomar’s teammates, Jeff Eaton, has questioned publicly whether Bomar is fit to play in Sunday’s showcase matches. “I think we could get a good match out of him in the 4 slot. It’s time to re-examine our lineup.”

Bomar refutes Eaton’s charges, suggesting Eaton’s lack of focus was the real reason for the team’s 2007 defeat (SEE STORY).

“Calling your wife in between each hole should be enough talking for one round of golf. When our players can resist calling home after every shot, we will again compete for the Cup.”
