Captain of the 98 squad, David Johnson, has put together a storied Phi Alpha Cup career, leading Team 98 to multiple PAC titles and collecting a host individual accolades along the way. Johnson has been awarded two Jeffrey J. Eaton MVP Awards and is the only PAC player to ever record a hole-in-one during PAC play (Singles, 2008). His leadership skills have been hailed by many, especially the morale-building act in 2012 when he selflessly named Jeff Eaton “Assistant To The Captain.”
Johnson’s hometown of Sparta, NJ has a history of manufacturing famous sports figures, including Ohio State guard and Orlando Magic reserve, Chris Jent. While Johnson’s meteoric rise to fame has largely outshined Jent’s star, Johnson, in true gentleman’s fashion, has always given praise to those athletes that paved the way for his PAC success. While he still keeps close ties to his home in the Northeast, Johnson moved to North Carolina in 2011 to increase his off season practice rounds. He resides with his family in Raleigh and is extremely active with charity work, spending one Saturday morning a year teaching golf to disadvantaged youth.
