Burr Guarantees Victory for 2008

Steve Burr celebrates in 2007 with the Cup he claims he will never relinquish.

“Scuba” Steve says he will swim circles around competition

After posting an impressive 2-1-1 record and helping lead Team 1997 to a 2007 Phi Alpha Cup victory, “Scuba” Steve Burr has taken to the airwaves. No longer the butt of ball retrival and Aquaman jokes, Burr put forth one of the strongest 4-seed performances in Phi Alpha history in 2007. And with the Cup firmly in his possission, Burr says he isn’t letting go.

“The Cup is with its rightful owner, and that’s where it’s going to stay,” Burr told a group of reporters from his home in Hoboken, NJ, on his weekly conference call.

When asked if he was guaranteeing a Team 1997 victory for 2008, Burr was not bashful.

“You’re damned right I am. The only question is, how bad is it going to be?” added Burr, sounding more like Floyd Mayweather or Roy Jones Jr. than Tiger Woods.

When reached after a practice round at his home course, Mohawk Country Club in Sparta, NJ – shouting distance from Burr’s home in Hoboken – Team ’98 Captain David Johnson was more reserved in his rebuttal.

“If we keep our cell phones off (See Story) and show up on Sunday (See Story), then we should be able to compete. And if not, we have a permanent first alternate in Jeff Cohen who will still be first alternate if we need someone to fill in.”

Jeff Cohen could not be reached for comment.
