BLACK-OUT! Winston Black Retires; Brian Wilsey Tapped as Replacement

Winston Black suddenly retires from the Phi Alpha Cup to focus more on his Cub Scout Troop.

OUT WITH THE OLD; IN WITH THE NEW. TEAM 98 MAKES DRAMATIC ROSTER CHANGE FOLLOWING WINSTON BLACK’S RETIREMENT.

Multiple sources close to the Phi Alpha Cup Executive Committee have confirmed that Team 98 team member Winston Black intends to formally announce his retirement at the beginning of next week. The announcement comes as a surprise to PAC players and fans alike. The reason for Black’s decision is apparently his desire to pay closer attention to his increasing duties as his sons’ Cup Scout Troop Den Master (pictured above).

Black joined Team 98 in 2007, and from the get-go, gave Team 98 a burst of energy they desperately needed after the departure of John “Bedtime” Stubbs. Black won the Jeffrey J. Eaton MVP Award in 2011 and the Jeffrey B. Cohen Sportsmanship Award in 2012 – although his sportsmanship award was revoked in 2013 for conduct unbecoming a PAC member. Black also brought to the PAC a now timeless tradition, “A Sip From The Cup,” in which a member from the winning team drinks champagne from the actual Phi Alpha Cup at Closing Ceremonies. Black leaves the PAC ranked 8th in all-time career wins with a record of 10-15-5.

According to sources, Team 98 top management is in the final stages of contract negotiations with Brian Wilsey, who hails from San Francisco, to replace Black. A lifelong 49ers and Team 97 fan, the decision to bring in Wilsey surprised some, but could provide a good fit as someone matching Black’s golf skills and internal fire.

Over the past 48 hours, as word of the Wilsey signing has leaked, PAC fans have been desperately scouring the Internet to uncover any tidbits on Wilsey’s golf game. In order to temporarily satisfy some of the public’s appetite, swing coach to the pros, and CBS Golf Analyst Peter Kostis analyzed Wilsey’s swing using the Konica Minolta BizHub SwingVision Camera on CBS’s golf telecast this weekend. Kostis’ analysis of the Wilsey swing is below.
